Valves question

Postby stephlal » Thu Jul 05, 2018 9:57 pm

My exhaust valves moved out of spec for the first time. Got my shims kit today and reshimmed, everything is back in spec.

I'm a beginner when it comes to engines...so help me understand this, do my shims get used up, or it's something else that gets used up in the engine? Meaning, the 2 x 2.35 shims I took out from my exhaust valves, are they keepers, or they use to be 2.40 and just got used up to 2.35?

Typically your valves get stretched from all the closing of the valve. That reduces the valve gap.

Ok, so my shims are keepers.
Thanks!

I got my son kit from Rocky mountain atv, although I think fortnine sells them too. I think it was $80 for the kit.

Wasn't bad to do, you get access to the shims when you remove the cams.

Ditto, hot cams shim kit from rocky.
If you can do all the other maintenance on your bike, this one is also easy, plenty of video's online to show you how to do it.
