FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE:
Every year, the BMA membership is asked to consider an important motion related to financial disclosure of the club as a non-profit (designated, non-soliciting) organization. The club has a strong and transparent financial oversight structure with a dedicated Treasurer, a dual signature expenditure process and regular reporting through Executive and Board meetings.
The budget for 2025 will be presented for approval at the AGM. The Federal Not-for-Profit Act allows that members of a designated, non-soliciting corporation may resolve not to appoint a public accountant, but the resolution is not valid unless all the members entitled to vote at an annual meeting of members consent to the resolution. Appointing a public accountant will cost between $6,000 to $10,000 to meet standards contained in the Act for an annual Financial Review or Audit. Members at the AGM will be asked to vote on the following motion as special business:
The BMA resolves to not appoint a public accountant given our strong financial history and existing internal reporting and oversight mechanisms.
